“A spectacular fall from grace”

Kerplunk. That’s the tin bounce of a self-righteous goof landing on his backside. New York Democratic Governor Eliot Spitzer has been tagged as a regular for a $5,500 per hour prostitution service. He admits and apologizes according to this UK article. It won’t surprise anyone to learn that there’s not exactly a line of Democrats to condemn Mr. Spitzer.

Here’s the Newsday article – the link has video of the apology.

  1. Kyle Prast says:

I feel for his poor wife and family!

  2. Isn’t the hypocrisy of the Democrats pathetic? Hillary let her man get away with it, so how could she possibly get after Spitzer. Here’s the ex-AG and now governor…both law enforcement jobs…and he’s a criminal. Just imagine if it were one of the big-time Republicans that got caught. How the Dems would be screaming for his head! The fact that another politician is shown to be a hypocritical, lying, self-serving scoundrel isn’t what’s shocking. It’s how the liberals fall all over each other making excuses for criminal behavior. If he doesn’t resign, he’s even worse than it now seems he is! Who ever heard of saying, “Oh we mustn’t pile on the poor fellow” when someone is caught in criminal behavior?

  3. His “poor” wife probably already knew he’s a dog! Do you think for one minute that Hillary was not aware of all the women Bill was having affairs with?

  4. I wonder how the New York Times will make John McCain responsible?

  5. The Republicans will be accused of setting up a sting and enticing him into exercising his libido. How could anyone resist? Why the poor fellow was helpless and those responsible for tricking him should be put in prison for life! And at $5500 per hour he was certainly helping an economy badly in need of some “pump priming”…so to speak.

  6. Yea we’re lining up condemning him just as much as Larry Craig, David Vitter, Mark Foley or any of the GOP crumb bumbs were accused by their own.

You guys are acting a little insufferable.

The Republicans aren’t being accused for anything. However, in my personal opinion, prostitution is a victimless crime that should be legalized and regulated.

I think he should step down, and so do most people.

Stop the liberal fear-mongering, El Gato.

  7. Buying and selling human beings is not a victimless crime.

  8. sex trade is VERY different from prostitution.

Buying and selling human beings is NOT prostitution, that’s slavery.

  9. BrkfldDad says:

Shawn, I am disappointed – “prostitution is a victimless crime “. I could go on a diatribe, but I think this sums it up better. I don’t agree with you on this one.

    http://crime.about.com/od/prostitution/a/prostitution.htm

  10. BrkfldDad says:

p.s. Is it just me, or is anyone else imagining Dick Strong dancing right now on Spitzer’s grave?

  11. BrkfldDad, those are residual crimes, not prostitution itself. I would counter by saying those crimes happen because of a lack of regulation.

And arguably, if it were taxed and regulated, it would significantly help curb black market drug sales, violence and slavery. But then again, I think Marijuana should be legalized and heavily taxed as well. But that’s just me.

All the war on drugs and prostitution does is scare white folk in the suburbs and spend billions of dollars haphazardly.

I’m conflicted about Spitzer–I think this should be a non-issue, but it is against the law. So i guess the verdict is if Sen. David Vitter and Sen. Larry Craig don’t have to step down, Spitzer shouldn’t have to.

I’m trying to hold them all to the same standards.

  12. BrkfldDad – I had forgotten about the specifics of Dick Strong’s case.

Prostitution, even at $5,500 an hour, is not without victims.

  13. There’s no correlation between legalized marijuana and legalized prostitution. Regulated or not, it is not ok to treat human beings as consumer products. Prostitution is fundamentally dehumanizing.

  14. I just knew that Shawn would come out protecting one of his own! I love how predictable the liberals are. Shawn, you seem to stand alone on this one, and as usual you follow the predictable liberal action of “oh yeah, well look at what the other guy did” instead of just admitting the truth. Spitzer didn’t try to weasel his way out like his liberal and hypocritical supporters are doing for him.

Hillary should have said “I feel for his wife. I know just how she feels.” Of course she can’t because she’s hoping to drag her own philandering liar back to the White House with her. One good thing about it if she wins would be that they might bring back everything they stole when they left!

BTW Shawn, it’s not so much the crime, it’s the defense of it that’s the issue whichever party is involved. It’s just that the liberal Dems are so much more pious when caught, and this particular guy was so aggressive in prosecuting others and pronouncing how he was going to bring ethics to New York. Ha!

  15. Here’s an article to make you think if you’re not an atheist:

  16. Oh, give it a rest Whiskers.

  17. Dave Frank says:

Spitzer should step down, period. Not only is what he did illegal, it shows profoundly poor judgment. Quite simply, he felt he was above the law. He is not. You can argue about what the law should be but it doesn’t change what it actually is. I feel very badly for his family, I would not wish that kind of humiliation on anyone….or take any amount of joy in it.

  18. Oh, oh! Looks like the resident “liberal” believer got offended by that post.

  19. Actually hadn’t seen your last one when I posted. It was all the blather about ‘predictable liberal group thinking Shawn’ and ‘the wives of adulterers deserve their humiliation’ that set me off. You seem like a smart guy, why not just argue your point?

  20. “It was all the blather about ‘predictable liberal group thinking Shawn’ and ‘the wives of adulterers deserve their humiliation’ that set me off.”

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again Kathryn. You see things that weren’t said and then react to this. You are either dyslexic or need eyeglasses! Please read, re-read, take a nap, and then re-read what I write before you go off on it!

  21. Perhaps you didn’t mean it:

I just knew that Shawn would come out protecting one of his own! I love how predictable the liberals are. Shawn, you seem to stand alone on this one, and as usual you follow the predictable liberal action of “oh yeah, well look at what the other guy did” instead of just admitting the truth.

  22. Perhaps you are fixated on what you think I said and still are unable to see what I actually said. Sad!

  23. You may be right; I still don’t get it. We do seem to talk past one another.

  24. Domo Arigato, Mr. El Gato!

The funny thing is I didn’t really defend Spitzer, I said he should be held to the same standard as the other slime balls.

Because unlike you, I hold all slime balls to the same standard–regardless of their party affiliation.

And Kathryn, you liberal goon-how dare you link to a LIBERAL newspaper? I mean, El Gato’s Conservative News website is so bias-free that I can’t believe you’d throw this trash at us!!

Look at the hypocrisy of giving a free pass to Republican Sen. David Vitter continue on, a man with a wife and kids who had rambunctious sex with prostitutes form the DC Madam for months.

And then you come down hard on Spitzer.

Or how about giving a free pass to Republican Sen. Larry Craig who solicited sex with a man in a public restroom?

Or let’s just give a free pass to former Rep. Mark Foley who had explicit sexual emails sent to Congressional Pages (read: 15 year old boys).

Grow up, stop the mudslinging and hold all these sickos to the same level.

  25. As for the legalization of prostitution, if it were heavily regulated, sex trafficking would be harder. Increase fines for those who partake in sex acts with the enslaved and their captors.

And if you’re not a U.S. Citizen (like many sex trafficers) then you get your ass deported.

Kathryn, I know your concerns about the dehumanizing nature of prostitution are legitimate–but let me say that if you choose to prostitute, then it’s your choice.

And this ignores the bottom line that if we could eradicate poverty, prostitution rates would go down.

But I don’t really wan to make that argument right now.

My assertion still stands: hold Spitzer to the same standards the others should be held to Vitter, Craig, Foley: Perverts at-large.

Which means I think all of them need to step down and be prosecuted.

  26. Shawn, I haven’t seen any free passes issued. We’re chatting on a blog – not rewriting history.

I think they are all wrong, but instead of dredging ancient history, I’m on the topic of the day. He happens to be a high-powered Democrat. Next week it will be someone else.

  27. You’d be lying if you said Foley Vitter and Craig didn’t get a free pass.

  28. One more time – Shawn, I thought we were talking about here with this cast of characters. I can’t control the actions of the world. That others gave these guys a free pass really has little to do with me. I won’t make it my focus. You can if you want, but maybe you can do it on your blog.

  29. You notice how Shawn misreads what my point was? It was how the hypocrites defended Spitzer. I never mentioned others who committed crimes. Shawn quickly does what I condemn by dragging in others to denounce instead of denouncing the perp.

I give a free pass to no one who admits what they did but is arrogant about it. I hope that if Kathryn chooses to blow up your house you will say “that’s her choice”. Prostitution is against the law, so don’t act so dumb about it! Would you use such a lame remark in a debate?

The chief law enforcer can’t be allowed to break the law and have everyone in his party make excuses. That was and is my point! Reading and comprehension classes at 7:00

  30. I said:

“My assertion still stands: hold Spitzer to the same standards the others should be held to Vitter, Craig, Foley: Perverts at-large.

Which means I think all of them need to step down and be prosecuted.”

Have fun at reading and comprehension, you need it!

Cindy, My point was you never brought up the issue when all three of them were vetted, but you do now.

  31. Now that we’re all in violent agreement, I’d like to talk about graffiti.

Anyone else noticing it around town? Cindy, does the city have a person/office responsible for cleaning up such things? If it’s on a street sign, do I have to figure out who “owns” that road?

I’ve only noticed it one place, but it’s been there for months. Doesn’t seem like a good thing to let stand…..

  32. Kathryn – e-mail me the location and I’ll chart out your course for action.

  33. Shawn, if I remember correctly I was on BrookfieldNOW when those came up. I left BrookfieldNOW so that I could hang out in the bigger world. Had they happened under the Fairly Conservative banner, I probably would have talked about them.

Stupid men happens to be one of my favorite subjects.

  34. I thought so!

  35. Mine too!

  36. Well Shawn, the girl is 22. Her ‘choice’ seems to be the latest in a list of bad experiences.

If it isn’t good for your mother or your sister or your friend, it probably isn’t good for any other woman/girl. Some choice.
