Changing the rules

I saw in the paper yesterday that a little hanky-panky took place prior to the next Common Council voting for leadership. 5th district Alderman Scott Berg set up the changes in anticipation of kissing some 4th district Alderman and Council President Steve Ponto backside. (Let’s just say that isn’t exactly a pretty picture if you know these to two.) I hope it backfires on Ponto and another Council President gets the opportunity to use the new law.

Two things bother me about the way the change took place. First, I thought there was something that kept a law that requires a super-majority – in this case 10 votes, to be overturned by a simple majority, or 9 as we saw Tuesday night.

The other? Can’t say yet. In politics timing is as important as the vote. I have some work to do, though.
