“You can’t always get what you want.

But if you try sometimes you might find
You get what you need.” –Rolling Stones

This is the tag attached to the e-mails from Elmbrook school district Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources Christine Hedstrom. I do believe she’s tried her best to make me a believer.

I asked the district via open records request to review everything the district has on Mike Sprinkel February 1st. She sent a reply the 20th of March saying that copies were available for $36 to cover 120 copies. But I didn’t ask for copies! I asked to review.

The ongoing lesson in open records – no one can charge you for looking at the information you seek.

So, I’m in the process of making an appointment with Hedstrom to view the information. The only problem – she’s out of the office until March 31. It will be more than two months since my request and the records are actually available. That’s just about a month and a half longer than the law recommends.

I’m looking for one thing. I guess in a couple of weeks we’ll see if by trying, I get what I need.
