For a stretch of time this afternoon, water was entering the MMSD deep tunnel system at a rate equivalent to 10 billion gallons per day, which MMSD spokesman Bill Graffin said set a record for what he’s witnessed during his time with the agency.

“The highest I’d ever seen it was 4 billion in May 2004 when we had 19 straight days of rain,” Graffin said.
