Brookfield’s Plan Commission – September 22

No, I didn’t go. You don’t really need to go to know that once again Mayor Jeff Speaker and his merry men have robbed from the community to give to VK. (Yes, I’m aware the company is technically in a different name now, but do you really think that matters?) The odds are pretty good it was a unanimous vote in favor of whatever VK wanted. Remember – VK isn’t actually building this one. His company is selling off parcels to former Plan Commissioners to do the dirty work.

Here’s the staff report to give it all away. Take a minute to read where staff wants to “encourage (not require) the applicant” to make an improvement to the project. The applicant later whines it’s too expensive.

The Common Council will likely applaud the applicant’s effort with a unanimous approval at their October 7th meeting. Expect Mr. Happy Pants to make some snarky comment about there not being any opposition to the project.

There were three policy discussions last night. One super secret plan (that’s what a report to be delivered at the meeting means) to create an industrial district has already been championed by the press. Oh, please don’t be so naive as to think this reporter came up with the story all by his little lonesome. It’s interesting that the new district plan wasn’t even mentioned in his article, just a lot of “we support industry” stuff from city hall.

When planning is hidden like this, it usually means there are big winners and big losers. I guess we’ll have to see what happens next. After all, land planning is such an important part of Brookfield. We spend tens of thousands of taxpayer dollars to generate pages and pages of crap that’s never followed.

I’m glad to see Brookfield’s part of the tax wasting club! Franklin had two (if not more) reports done several years ago, and we’ve not followed a single one either. Talk about a BIG waste of money.
