Daddio and Dean- I well remember the gas wars. The Transport station (whatever happened to Transport?) would get as low as 18.9. I’d roll in with my big old Catalina with the 26 gallon tank and put in $4 worth and feel like a big spender.
2 hours worth of pay to fill the tank. Hmmm. About like now.
Clearwater? I grew up going there every other summer. The spouse and I honeymooned there as my great-grandmother rented us a small beach apartment for a wedding gift.
The last time I was there I didn’t even recognize it.

I’d do a big yippee skippee if I couldn’t remember when it was 41 cents.

You’re just a kid, Grumpy.
In the GOOD old days, a gas station in Oconomowoc would occasionally touch off a price-war by selling the stuff for eighteen cents/gal.

I remember 19 cents. I began driving at 59 cents though.

I remember gas wars (where did those go BTW) after I started driving that went down to 25 cents. Most of the time it was 35 cents.
And to think this past summer I was bragging about not having bought gas priced above $4.

Here in Richmond the best price is $2.57 with $2.65 common. Some places have dropped $0.47 in the past week. Hooray!

Funny you should mention that. I think most of us know that, figuring in inflation, gas isn’t that much more expensive than 20 years ago.
I owned a practical VW bug back then, 8 gallon tank was all it had, but it was nice to drive from Clearwater to Miami on one tankful, 2 or 3 bucks.
