Savannah, a future destination

I need (OK, so “need” may just be a relative choice of words) something on the calendar for the month of March. I think I’m going to make it Savannah after reading this Design*Sponge guide.

Any suggestions?

  1. Randy in Richmond says:

Savannah is a wonderful southern city, not too big with great places to eat. I generally cross the bridge and stay in Hilton Head where the living is easy and the golf plentiful. A few years ago I stayed at Marshall House (or Place), I can’t remember, in Savannah and it was great. They also have a great restaurant. Take a short ride and eat on Hilton Head Island at the Smokehouse BBQ or the Tavern on the Park, both wonderful restaurants. Also the restaurants on Tybee Island are unique and beautiful. March’s weather will be a challange-could be in the 70’s or at worse in the 40’s. Most likely in the 60’s.
You must read ‘Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil’ before going and then visit the ‘Mercer House’ while there. Yes, it’s a house in the songwriter’s family where the book takes place.
Drink the sweet tea, eat some grits, and sip on a hurricane in the evening.

  2. My wife and I spent part of the day there and took one of those tour buses. Saw a lot of the architecture and historical stuff. If you have time, you may be able to sniff out some of this stuff on your own, but we enjoyed our short time there.
