Dear President Obama

Will you please pretend that a few people in the United States are as smart as you are? When you say things like America will experience a “catastrophe” if you don’t get your way and pass this stimulus bill, tell my why. Exactly. With big words and everything. I think there’s a really good chance I’m up to understanding the details.

Mr. President, I’m one of those silly Americans that actually downloaded and read a good chunk of your bill to save us all from catastrophe. I tend to believe the catastrophe will be passing this bill. If we’re near the brink of disaster, don’t you think you could take out, say, $600 billion of excess that’s stuffed in this thing? You know, the little things that add up that you are already admitting we can do without. (New grass, contraceptives, etc.) You swear these are minor issues, but I’m pretty sure I read otherwise in that bill.

But what do I know? I’m just a housewife. One who is starting to wonder aloud if the only “catastrophe” about which you are concerned is your first 100 days.

  1. Remember when yesterday Nancy Pelosi said that if we don’t pass the “stimulus” package – 500 MILLION Americans will lose their jobs every month…. U.S. Census Bureau says there are 303 Million citizens. Fuzzy Math I guess…..

  2. Randy in Richmond says:

I agree. The bill is the catastrophe. I don’t want it to pass. Collins has thrown in with Obama. Voinovich is leaning. Snowe and Specter are on the fence. They have to vote today or the world will end. Word is that many Senators will be on a security ‘ junket’ to Munich starting tomorrow.
In a warped sort of way a part of me wants this bill to pass. It is soo bad a bill that as time passes and nothing changes it cannot help but reflect badly on Obama. If it passes, Obama and Congress will spend about 300 billion dollars ‘more’ than has been spent in total in Iraq since we went in on March 20, 2003. This after less than 3 weeks in office.

  3. Proving that he’ll do less with more than any president before him. I know what you mean about letting it all fall on his head.

I don’t think they can solve this problem because they really don’t know what the problem is that needs solving. Right now BO’s throwing spaghetti against the wall to find a sign in what sticks.

That and paying back his buds for a happy inauguration gift or two.

  4. Randy in Richmond says:

Get in line. A Senate Committee today cancelled a session to consider President Obama’s nomination for labor secretary, Hilda Solis. The reason-her husband just paid about $6,400 in tax liens against his business.
I question why the session was cancelled because it is her husband’s business–not hers’. Oh by the way, he paid it yesterday. There’s more to this story than we know now or they wouldn’t have cancelled the hearing. Maybe the business is in her name too. If it’s all on him I don’t see the problem. We already have a tax cheat in charge of the IRS so why not a labor secretary whose husband’s business was a little behind on it’s taxes. Washington is not the new Chicago.

  5. J. Strupp says:

Obama needs to go back to the drawing board and put together a plan that eliminates the nonsense (New grass, contraceptives, etc.) and include a much larger proposal increasing the size of infrastructure spending and other tangible assets that improve the nation’s productivity. Let’s do it right and put together a plan upwards of $2 trillion. We’ll be back later this year for another $800 billion anyway so let’s get it done right away.

  6. Am I glad you aren’t president. 🙂
