Elmbrook board meeting and “work session” tonight

Work sessions mean there’s no video to review. Important stuff often starts here. Tonight at 8:30 p.m. it’s a couple of years of budget planning. It won’t surprise anyone that page 11 talks of increasing student enrollment in 100 student increments. Of course, that enrollment is unlikely to come from within the district.

Ms. Wartman’s board has a little problem with spending. They need the money any way they can get it. Sadly, they are willing to compromise the quality of the district to raise the cash.

The district is holding a series of listening sessions on this issue:

Financial Planning Public Listening & Feedback Sessions
Recommendations for Year 1 (2009-2010) and Year 2 (2010-2011)
March 11: 7 – 10 a.m.
March 11: 4 – 6 p.m.
March 12, 7 – 9 p.m.

Recommendations for Year 3 (2011-2012), Year 4 (2012-2013), and Year 5 (2013-2014)
May 27: 7 – 10 a.m.
May 27: 4 – 6 p.m.
May 28: 7 – 9 p.m.

I can’t say my experience with district “listening” is positive. It’s usually more like documenting resistance and twisting input, but if you’re so inclined, by all means attend. (I’ll never forget how one of my statements from a similar session ended up excerpted out of context with my name as pro-referendum. No, they really don’t let anything stand in the way of the goals they’ve preset.)

There’s also a regular board meeting at 7:00 p.m. You can find that agenda and packet materials here.
