The Enchantress of Florence by Salman Rushdie

Tonight’s book club – my favorite night of the month. I thought our book The Enchantress of Florence by Salman Rushdie was yucky.

I know. I was really excited about the book because of 1) the signed copy the spouse bought me for Christmas, and 2) my planned trip to Florence next September. I had really high expectations, especially since the book was billed as historical fiction, a favorite genre of mine. Sadly, the book was laced with a ton of what can only be described as fantasy, and that made it a tough sell. At times the story was nearly impossible to follow.

C’est la vie. There’s always next month’s book: The Whole World Over by Julia Glass.

In between I’m reading Peter Mayle’s A Year in Provence I picked up as clearance from my beloved Schwartz Books. I was hoping it would mentally warm me up, but so far the first couple of chapters are the coldest winter in memory. Oh well, there are always my fuzzy slippers and a cup of tea.
