Does Brookfield want what CVS is selling?

Interesting goings on last week at the Brookfield Plan Commission meeting. Preliminary minutes report:

· Alderman Nelson moved to approve the revised plan and method of operation subject to the above-listed conditions provided the City Attorney writes tight language regarding the provision that the Plan Commission has the ability to re-visit the drive-thru issue if it becomes a traffic problem. The motion was seconded by Alderman Owen and failed with two ayes (Nelson, Owen) and five nays (Mahkorn, Wartman, Speaker, Donze).

· Commissioner Donze moved to deny the application. The motion was seconded by Alderman Mahkorn
and failed with three ayes (Mahkorn, Wartman, Donze) and three nays (Speaker, Nelson, Owen)

· Alderman Mahkorn moved to table the item to give the applicant time to modify the plan. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Wartman and passed with five ayes (Mahkorn, Owen, Wartman, Speaker, Nelson) and one nay (Donze).

This kind of separate thinking NEVER happens in Brookfield. The plans must have been really off for three commissioners to want to deny the request after Ertl & Company and the Mayor had advocated approval.

The world might really be coming to an end since Aldermen Mahkorn and Owen disagreed.

A drive-thru in that spot is ridiculous. Doesn’t mean Brookfield won’t approve it though. We seem to be really good at ridiculous under this administration.
