Does anyone else find it odd

…that Homeland Security’s Janet Napolitano is taking the swine flu lead instead of, say, a secretary of Health and Human Services?

Oh, wait. I guess we really don’t have one of those yet.

UPDATE – Oh my. The directive to send this type of crisis to Homeland Security was a Bush directive (I heard HSPD-9), so it has nothing to do with confirming an HHS secretary.

Still seems odd.

Comments

  1. Not really, considering the vector appears to be tourists etc. from Mexico. That’s squarely in HS domain. If people start dying or becoming really, clinically ill, then it’s time for HandHS to take over.

  2. The Lorax says:

Which is a moot point because DHS shouldn’t even exist. DOD and HHS are overlap for DHS.

  3. Anthrax in the mail, biological warfare? It probably made sense at the time.

  4. Off the top of my head it’s odd because

    1) The makeup of the flu combination of human and animal (like aids supposedly started). Possibly a concoction mixed up from a mad scientist?

    2) As far as I know Mexico is not especially known for flu epedemics.

    3) There is a steady stream of “mules” to carry the disease into the U.S.

If one is so inclined one could speculate on terrorism.
