H1N1 (aka Swine) flu hits the Elmbrook school district

Tonawanda school is closed May 4th through 8th. The days will not need to be made up.

For more information visit the district Web site.

  1. Anthony says:

Pretty soon it will be seen throughout the entire district…I know of some kids who are complaining of flu like symptoms, and will most likely be staying home this week. Mainly because East is being more strict on students – if you are showing flu-like symptoms, they will send you home right away, and won’t allow you to come back until a doctor has cleared you to do so.

  2. The big question around here: will East make it past the youngest’s AP exam on Friday?

  3. Kathryn says:

Ouch! Maybe they could all wear masks?

  4. Interesting phrasing in the press release, to the effect that ‘the Waukesha County Health Department ORDERED the closing..’

  5. Gibson sounded like he could use a good cry when we got the recorded call yesterday afternoon.

  6. The AP Test angle is interesting. The “CollegeBoard” controls conditions of testing pretty rigorously if I recall. What AP test is on Friday?

  7. A few, I think, but hers is APUSH. (US History)

  8. Kathryn says:

Ordered school closing–that’s what is supposed to happen under the state plan for pandemic flu. Look at page 79 of the document dated 2007.

  9. Wilson828 says:

East had their Prom at the Wisconsin Club on Friday night. Very nice.

All this phooey about the flu .. here’s what’s gonna happen .. everyone is taking extra precautions and illnesses will be down … like colds, and other things.

It’s called hygiene … germs .. wash your hands with soap. Simple.

But this flu thing is media hysteria.

  10. Anthony says:

Guess what I heard? The Tonawanda infected 4th grader has a sister that goes to East. Who knows, East may be the next school to be shut down?

  11. The Youngest says:

Yes please! Several students this week have been begging for someone to go to Tonawanda and lick the school to take one for the team. The CollegeBoard would reschedule exams, as they already have for Oconomowoc High School.

  12. Anthony says:

A kid in the Freshman class, it turns out, is the sibling. I know his name, but will not reveal it for his privacy.

The school kept him home for a few days, but after he was cleared by a doctor to return, he did.
