A chat with Brookfield’s parks director about those mosquitoes

Bill Kolstad, Director of Parks and Forestry, was kind enough to give me a couple of minutes on the phone this morning.

For those of us wondering, he confirmed the permits to control mosquito larvae are in place. The process of determining larvae counts has begun. The count hasn’t yet met the threshold needed to justify an application.

When it does, and he thinks (as would any of us swatting at those pesky things) it could be a little sooner than average this year, the city will get to work. He did mention a need for a 2 or 3 day advance notice to the DNR, so there would be a little delay.

Here are a couple of links from last year. This one is about reducing breeding ground around your home. Here’s a little more about the city process.
