Home and away

Well, the trip to Indianapolis is complete. Hey, I got to take a spin on the Speedway! Of course, it was in a small tour bus at 35 mph, but I guess you can’t have everything. Indy wasn’t ever on my list of places to see. I can confirm it still isn’t.

Today I’m doing some laundry and tweaking the computer because tomorrow I head to Door County. Yes, it’s Father’s Day. Yes, I feel a wee bit guilty. But, I did just spend a fun-filled three days in Indianapolis with him, so I’m letting it go.

Tomorrow is also Son No. 2’s 21st birthday. In these parts I’m quick to hear “golden birthday” when I mention that. The only thing “golden” about it will be if he comes through it unscathed. I detest the Wisconsin 21st birthday ritual. I threaten, I cajole, and then I threaten again. The effort seemed to work with No. 1, so I’ll keep my fingers crossed. (I’d share my threats but since they are likely to send the poor child to therapy in a few years, it’s probably better that I don’t.) I have the smallest comfort in the fact that he’s dated an older woman for a few years (not that much older, but she’s already 21) who has promised to babysit.

I swear, by the time the youngest gets to this point, I’m going to be sooooo gray.

And don’t worry, I’m taking contraband to The Clearing – a cell card for the computer – but I can’t always predict when I’ll have a signal or free time. I’ll give it my best shot. Until then, enjoy this amazing summer day.

(No, I don’t have the air on. Haven’t we been through that before?)

Not having air conditioning on during humid weather like this … is like camping. It’s uncivilized.

Glad you made it through your trip to Indy. Now you know what’s it’s like to go to Iowa (anywhere in Iowa).

    Enjoy Door County.

They have something at the Milwaukee Mile where for $10 or 3 nonperishable food items (everything goes to the Hunger Task Force), you can drive around the track for 3 laps at 75 mph. My Uncle and Grandpa did it, and it was pretty fun.
