That August deadline for a healthcare decision is toast

July 23, 2009 at 10:07 am --by Cindy · 1 Comment

We’ve heard over the last few days as others started to speculate it might take a little more than the next two weeks to get it done. Now it appears to be confirmed.

In his prime time news conference Wednesday in which the topic of health care dominated, President Obama backed off the August deadline he had set for Congress to pass a bill and tried to change the narrative, explaining that his deadline had been more of a motivator.

I think delaying this issue was huge. Changing the momentum in politics, just like in a football or basketball game, can change the outcome of the game. I’m really pleased to see it happen.

Keep in mind that House Majority Leader Nancy Pelosi can call this thing to a vote anytime she wants – even if it’s not out of committee – but she’d be very naive to do so. Now the White House is suggesting all will be decided by fall. I’m thing nothing may be decided. And that’s ok.

Take this debate back to healthcare COSTS and not insurance and you’ll have my attention Capitol Hill. Right now all you have is my dissatisfaction with your current lack of leadership.

The delay is an extremely positive development. The politicians will be going home soon for recess and will get an ear full. Did you hear the audio from the other day where one pol was telling a crowd that not only would “healthcare reform” not be adding to the deficit but would cause a surplus. The laughs and jeers at the pol were overwhelming and deserved.
