Big Brother

Having been out of the country for a while, it’s great to be back in the land of the free. I think.
The White House is actually asking us to be domestic spies for the cause. Here on it’s own Blog is what the White House is asking you to do:

“There is a lot of disinformation about health insurance reform out there, spanning from control of personal finances to end of life care. These rumors often travel just below the surface via chain emails or through casual conversation. Since we can’t keep track of all of them here at the White House, we’re asking for your help. If you get an email or see something on the web about health insurance reform that seems fishy, send it to flag@whitehouse.gov.”

Ah, gutter politics right from the top.

  1. I don’t follow you. What’s wrong with seeking out disinformation and taking a stand against it? I’ve done it multiple times on this blog 😉

    Serious note…disinformation is very harmful and the White House seems to just be asking people to report bullsh*t so they can have a fair shot at shooting it down. Similar to Obama’s “Fight the Smears” web page to combat false information people might have used against him during his election. Unfortunately enough people are naive enough to buy into random, uninformed “talking points” spread on blogging sites or media outlets.

    For an entertainment perspective on how the spreading of such ‘talking points’ works through Fox News:

  2. Why don’t you start documenting your “disinformation” claims and we’ll debate the claim’s legitimacy.

    For you to invoke “talking points” in the examples you cite is laughable. The MSM and the left in Congress have tweaked and used this tactic to the nth degree for years. Would you please provide proof that the people who spoke at the rallies got their ideas from Fox. About two weeks ago on this site I wrote about the Federal Government taking over health care and the failure of any federally run agency to do so efficiently. I said this:

    “Which Government agency model , for instance, do you want to operate your healthcare: FEMA, the US Post Office, Amtrack, the TSA, DMV, the Veterans Administration, etc ? ”

    If I were writing that today I would include the ‘Clunker’ program Fox was talking about. To NOT make the comparison is simply foolish and shortsighted.

    If you don’t see the folly in the White House requesting citizens to report to it on other citizens’ free speech, you definitely have your man as President.

  4. Obama and his ultra-liberal Democrats, along with the buddies he’s appointing as czars, are out to take over the country just like his friend Chavez did in Venezuela. He’s using the same tactics that Lenin, Stalin, and Hitler did successfully. We must get rid of of as many of these guys in 2010 as we can, or if the stupid voters reelect them, we can kiss the future goodbye.

  5. Randy, I have no proof, but it sure is interesting isn’t it?

    Obviously you would reply “but that’s ridiculous!” And that is exactly my point. I have seen way too many arguments over interpretations, rather than actual facts. Most of this is in relation to this health care overhaul. Same with the Obama birth certificate. It’s a bunch of “reading in between the lines”, that somehow you see but I cannot. This is called an interpretation, not a fact. However, it is too often treated as such and therefore it becomes a malicious talking point/rumor that really doesn’t give justice to what is trying to be accomplished. It would be nice to see more factual discussion on these subjects than interpretations of data that are a very far stretch, or completely made up.

    That’s my two cents…I’m usually a little more playful as the liberal instigator for this blog, but I’m a little crabby today. Sorry folks.

  6. Another example: I assume you posted this entry in the blog, with the title of “big brother”, because Fox News told you to.

    On the front page of Fox News right now:

    http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/08/05/white-house-draws-requesting-fishy-information-supporters-health-reform/

    Heavy-Handed on Health Reform?

    Conservatives say White House acting ‘Orwellian’ after blog post asking about ‘fishy’ e-mails on health care plan
    **************************************

    My interpretation of this is that it is a little overplayed. I see “snitches” and “informants” as statements by the right. I make statements such as “smear prevention” and “battling misinformation.” However, neither side is making these claims based on fact.

    For all we know, they could be doing this for survey purposes. They haven’t told us exactly what action they take based on these e-mails though, and I really wish they did explain that.

    Jim
    No, I didn’t get my “Big Brother” or any of my entry from Fox. I got it from ‘flag@whitehouse.gov’. I did come to relatively the same conclusions as the Fox entry but the first time I saw that was from your link.

    And you have not read where I question the location of Obama’s birth. I do question why he will not release the actual birth certificate. But I had the same issue with Bill Clinton’s health records and John Kerry’s military records. If there is nothing to hide why not release them.

  8. Jim S – kiddo, from here on you’re flying solo. I love you like one of my own, but you’ve just been nudged out of the nest.

    –that other Mom

  9. My comment was made to be a joke Randy. I’m sure you didn’t steal that blurb (I’m pretty sure Fox News posted that after you did anyhow), but I was trying to make a point with my assumption.

    He doesn’t have any need to release a birth certificate because his certificate of birth is legal in all ways and just as legitimate. Hawaii has also checked on his legitimacy twice. I’m getting exhausted bothering with this.

    Mrs. Kilkenny, you should let me write on your blog as your guest liberal!

  10. Randy in Richmond says:

    For Jim and others who agree with him, President Obama’s current Secretary of State released a statement expessing, rather strongly, her views on this discussion:

  11. Tax Hell says:

    Jim S –
    FYI to righties it is as follows:
    Birthers = kool-aid sippers
    Cheney = war hero
    Bush = financial genius
    Rove = architect
    Rumsfeld = wmd
    black = white
    Just saying. Bravo!

  12. Mr. Hell, you aren’t making much sense these days. Can you cool it until your cognitive abilities resurface?

  13. J. Strupp says:

    “He’s using the same tactics that Lenin, Stalin, and Hitler did successfully.”

    That was one hell of a book hey?
