Generating smoke for cover on the health care debate

Confused about the White House stance on health care? Me, too.

On Sunday Kathleen Sebelius tells us via CNN a public option isn’t necessary to the plan. Yesterday the White House recanted. Obama called the public option the “best way”.

What I see is an administration creating confusion to surround the debate. By the time congress reconvenes no one will know where the bill stands and a vote could be demanded along party lines. It’s a shame. Do something is quickly dissolving into doing the worst possible thing. America will suffer under this style of leadership.

Of course, the press is participating in setting the fires. See this AP fact check. (I used this link because the Google links aren’t stable after a day or so.)

President Barack Obama has indicated a willingness to drop a government-run health care plan from any overhaul. The White House says that’s not a shift. Actually, it is.

Fierce proponents of a government-run health plan for months, Obama and senior administration officials, bowing to pressure from Republicans and skeptical voters, suggested that such a public option is not do-or-die.
