Thank You Dede

Thank you Sarah Palin and Rick Santorum. Your early on non- endorsements of candidate Dede Scozzafava have caused the Republican Party Beltway Establishment to rethink their policy of running like Democrats and being all things to all people. You started the ball rolling that caused an anointed, far left Republican candidate to not only quit her campaign but show her true colors by endorsing the Democratic candidate. The fact that the candidate you endorsed, who was outspent by a huge margin, was in single digits just 30 days ago, was agressively campaigned against by the national RNC and DNC, is a political unknown, lost 5% of the vote to the original Republican candidate, and still only lost by 2% of the vote is remarkable.

Better a donkey in office that acts like a donkey than a donkey in elephant’s clothing making a complete ass of the GOP .This had the making of an Arlen Specter in a skirt all over it”.*

A few days ago I hoped aloud on this site that Democrat Owens would win because the ramifications illustrated in the 23rd will hopefully show that the GOP is not the tent party, that is the purview of the Democrats.

And the campaign run by Bob McDonnell here in Virginia was a masterful thing to watch. He hammered away at what he would do and ran a positive message, never letting Creigh Deeds in the door. He didn’t wear ‘the hat of the day’ as he campaigned in blue northern Virginia and won or fought even in areas dominated by Obama just one year ago.

Losing one seat in New York can be the best thing to happen to the GOP in quite a while. Thank you Sarah Palin and Rick Santorum for shinning the light on the 23rd.

  1. I loved that quote too!

  2. I heard Owens had mentioned that many people thought he was a Republican. Haven’t heard much about him being a conservative Democrat though.

It is hard to get that image of “Specter in a skirt” out of my mind, but the quote is so true.

Congratulations to you and your state for electing a new governor, who ran on a “positive message”.
