Nebraska is special

Their Senator held out and received special funding for that state alone:

The amendment also includes a special extension solely for Nebraska: increased federal contributions to the cost of an expansion of Medicaid, the state-federal insurance program for the poor.

This along with some language restricting federal abortion funding satisfies Senator Ben Nelson and secures the 60th vote. A cloture vote will succeed. America’s getting true, meaningful health care reform – in four or five years. (Heavy dose of sarcasm there!)

There are a lot of articles flying around right now, but the quote above is from The New York Times.

Given this news I have to ask Wisconsin Senators Russ Feingold and Herb Kohl: What are we? Chopped liver? Our state budget could use a bit in the way of increased federal contributions as well. You two were lazy.

  1. Randy in Richmond says:

Let me predict that Nelson will not vote yea on the bill itself. Those that want to can see exactly what he’s doing. I also suspect at least one Senator from Virginia to do the same thing.

  2. I keep hoping it will all fall apart, but I’m kind of tired of having my hopes dashed, so I just may stop paying attention.

  3. Randy in Richmond says:

And the most frustrating thing is nobody’s seen the actual, real, bill.

  4. Randy in Richmond says:

A footnote to my previous comment. I just read where Nelson got Reid to agree that Nebraska will not have to pay the additional Medicare fees that every other state will have to divvy up for this bill. And that is forever. So that means if the bill passes we will be footing the funds for Nebraska forever.

  5. Bkfld Voter says:

    Let’s move to Nebraska…

  6. That’s funny. I’m kind of fond of this idea:

  7. Leaving this country has crossed by mind. Unfortunately, most of the rest of the world is already Socialist. They all want to be taken care of by the government. God help us.
