Oh, I know, this stuff has a limited audience, but I’d still like to get it out there before I go.
Mashable has an interesting bit out about community building. They direct their work to journalism outlets, but really, a lot of it applied here, too.
Items 1 through 4 are important in developing readership loyalty. Number 5 – Don’t try to be everywhere – was an important growth step here at FC. I pulled back on the feed to my Facebook page, but kept the Twitter thing going under FC’s own tag. My friends approved of the separation. (And I can’t overemphasis how many people are using Twitter in lieu of an RSS reader.) It’s a little overwhelming to have stuff coming in on RSS, Facebook, and Twitter. I’m probably going to mess with some of that soon, so don’t be upset if I dump your feed given the other outlets.
Just thought I’d share. One of the things we did well here was build a vibrant community. I’m really proud of that. Maybe these Mashable tips will help you do the same.
