It looks like the Ominous Omnibus died

From Reuters:

Democrats abruptly abandoned a fight over spending on Thursday and said they would instead extend government funding on a temporary basis, a move that gives Republicans a greater chance to enact the deep cuts they have promised.

The surprise agreement looked likely to end a high-stakes game of chicken that could have led to a shutdown of wide swaths of the government if Congress had not agreed on a spending bill by Saturday night.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said nine Republicans had agreed to back the bill but their support evaporated in recent days.

  1. I think we should have just let the government “grind to a halt” for a few days. OH NO, I can’t go to the National Parks! My mail comes a few days late Big deal. Police, Fire & Rescue, etc are pretty much guaranteed, so save some cash and send everyone home early for the holidays. I wonder what kind of dent that would put into the budget.

  2. At least then I would have an excuse for sending my Christmas cards so late.

  3. That’s funny, I was just thinking of emailing you. I’m marinating tandoori chicken. 🙂

Isn’t the post office separate from the government now?
