Help me with some technical stuff, please.

Does the site load slowly for you sometimes?

I repaired the database yesterday, and that seemed to have helped on this end, but I’m still concerned it gets glitchy. I’m working on the blogs this week and am considering a new host, but the task of moving everything is very daunting. I’ve decided I’d like to avoid it if I can.

Now it’s your turn to tell me everything you don’t like about Fairly Conservative. Leave the content out of your rant, this time it’s all about the technical experience. Do you read from mostly a mobile device? Is it slow to load? Is commenting easy enough?

If you have a pet peeve it’s time to let me know. Pretty please?


  1. Yes, it loads very slowly some days, yesterday was probably 30 seconds, and I have cable. This morning was slower than most sites, but not as bad as it has been.

  2. This is WordPress, right? I notice you aren\’t using any caching plugins like SuperCache, might want to think of giving that a try. WP also has a database optimizer that might help too.

    There’s a plugin that’s glitchy or something. I guess it’s time to troubleshoot. Thanks, too, for the supercache tip.

  5. It’s much better on this end. I was told there was a database error that they fixed and it should get better in about an hour as it all goes through.

I was told by one of the techs at my webhost that even a plugin that is not activated/installed can cause problems, they suggested to remove everything from the plugins directory (into a backup directory) and reinstall only the ones I was using, one at a time. I’m not sure exactly where my problem was, but it worked for me.

  7. Torture! But, it’s actually something I’ve heard, too.

    I’m in the process of all kinds of things. Unfortunately, it will be tough to keep things running smoothly for a few days, but I predict by Monday there will be good results.
