No longer jibing, lone Dem Ramona Kitzinger from Waukesha recants

She doesn’t like the numbers anymore.

One of the most remarkable points from the press conference last Thursday where Waukesha County Clerk Kathy Nickolaus gave Prosser the 7,000+ net votes he’d earned from Brookfield was this from Democratic count observer Ramona Kitzinger:

We went over everything and made sure all the numbers jibed up and they did. Those numbers jibed up, and we’re satisfied they’re correct.”

Can you unjibe? Evidently. After all, it’s Monday in Wisconsin and we are far from settled around here. Daniel Foster at the National Review Online likes this quote from Kitzinger’s statement:

“. . . with the enormous amount of attention this has received over the weekend, many people are offering my statements at the press conference that the “numbers jibed” as validation they are correct and I can vouch for their accuracy. As I told Kathy when I was called into the room, I am 80 years old and I don’t understand anything about computers. I don’t know where the numbers Kathy was showing me ultimately came from, but they seemed to add up. I am still very, very confused. . . “

Here’s the whole statement on the Waukesha County Democratic Party website.

Listen, the woman knew to use the word “jibe” correctly. Something tells me she’s rarely confused. It’s a shame she’s letting the party make her a laughable figure in this matter.

  1. Randy in Richmond says:

In a larger sense this speaks to those that have commented here and elsewhere that no big thing, the system worked . Yea, it worked, sorta. But at what cost. Having visited blue sites, believe me, this is not going away easily. Accusations, based on no facts, are everywhere.

Apparently this County Clerk, an elected official, has had issues before. She needs to resign, now. Not because the results involved any legal wrongdoing, but because she has lost the trust of performing her duties. There are pages and pages being debated about whether or not Excel and other programs are automatically saved. It doesn’t matter. I’m sure she’s a nice person but she needs to resign now. It’s not her actual credibility but her perceived credibility–she will never, ever fully have it again–no matter what she says or does.

There’s a time to draw, a time to hold’em, and a time to throw your cards in. It’s time for her to throw her cards in.

  2. Wow, that’s pathetic.

    *begin shameless self-promotion*

Well, if Ramona’s word is not good enough, I suppose observers looking to persuade stubborn lefties (who so badly want this to all be somehow fraudulent) they are mistaken might just have to turn to my analysis done BEFORE the Waukesha announcement was even made.

    *end shameless self-promotion*

  3. Clif Pierce says:

Kathy Nickolaus has got to go. She is an embarassment to the conservative movement, and her public history of incompetance proves she isn’t smart enough to be underhanded, especially given the scale of this “human error.” This makes us all look bad.

  4. Ok, Clif. Sounds good to me. I do wonder how the party will orchestrate her exit, and whether or not they’ve already anointed a successor.

  5. I thought it odd when I was reading her whole statement that she’d refer to the city of Brookfield as “Brookfield City.” I hate to call foul, but it sure doesn’t seem like someone from around here wrote that statement. I’ve never, ever, in my nearly 17 years here, heard anything but “city of” or “town of” Brookfield.

  6. Ok Cindy – I am CONVINCED that you are right. This was NOT written by her. There is NO WAY someone would refer to our city in that manner. Holy cow!!! Seriously…I think they have her tied up somewhere.

  7. We are suppose to believe that the Democratic party in Waukesaha sent their confused member to do the canvassing last week-really??

  8. Wilson828 says:

Clif Clif Clif…. you don’t know what you’re talking about …

  9. Having lived in the area for over 65 years I cannot recall anyone using the term “Brookfield City”. Ramona Kitzinger may have used those words but I am very suspicious.
During the canvass I am not surprised that the omission from the unofficial count was not mentioned. The purpose of the canvass is not to validate the unofficial totals but to make sure that the reports from the local voting places are accurate and those totals are certified and forwarded to the GAB.
This seems to be a pathetic attempt to keep raising suspicions about the accuracy of the vote totals for Brookfield.

  10. I agree with Randy that it would be prudent for the county clerk to resign. She has become the issue. By resigning she diffuses that issue.
I have checked state statutes and the county clerk can submit a resignation to the county sheriff or can be removed for cause by a 2/3 vote of the county board. I do not think there is cause so she should resign. If a vacancy for a county clerk exists the county board can appoint a person to fill the rest of the term. If they also call for a special election, the appointed person can serve until the election.

  11. Cindy, Libby and Jim,
Your comment about referring to “Brookfield City” as being irregular is off base. It is necessary to distinguish between the City of Brookfield and the Township of Brookfield, which are two different units of government. It doesn’t strike me as odd that someone who works in the clerk’s office would use this term as a sort of jargon or shorthand.

  12. BrkfldDad says:

Lorna – you missed the point and also made it at the same time in your post. Everyone around here says “City of Brookfield”. Only someone unfamiliar with Waukesha County would have said Brookfield City.

  13. 🙂 Exactly!

(And I suspect those who wrote the statement are beginning to realize the detail they missed.)

  14. Wait! I know this bit! It’s Phil Hartman’s Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer!

Ramona Kitzinger…. lucid enough to be the vice chair of the Democratic Party of Waukesha County….. to be a member of the Waukesha Board of Canvassers (since 2004!)…. to draft this statement whipping up conspiracy theories…but ooooooooooh the computer …. that shiny box with all its whirring noises and blinking lights… it “frightens and confuses” her……

  15. Someone really did toss that dear woman under the bus, didn’t they?

  16. The Lorax says:

First thing I said when I watched the press conference was that they were all a den of idiots. Ramona, Nickolaus, the whole lot.

My every day is walking around wondering how people are fit to hold the positions they hold. Life is amazing in that way.

  17. Not only did someone throw this woman under the bus but now the media has put the bus in reverse and is driving over her again.

  18. I haven’t had the TV on in twenty-four hours or so. I will say my instinct is to call this dear woman and make sure she has good backup. I come from a long line of women exactly like her. Smart, capable, engaged. I would have to think she’s ticked about the way she’s being used.

  19. from my senior citizen point of view some of these comments dishonor our grandparents and parents who have reached that golden age status.moses chose the elders to be the leaders for good reason.

  20. cindy. i read your comment and linked on to your link. no interest in several hundred comments( all the kings horses and all the kings men couldnt put humpty(dumpty) together again).there is no reason to elect a politician to county clerk, sheriff and register of deeds. the ? is how to do it. appointments are ultra political
