Pump Pain

Want to see what some top Democrats think about the high gas prices and the administration. Have a look-see.

  1. The Lorax says:

Six years ago. My inflation calculator says that the $4.29 I paid today would be just $3.80 in 2006 because of inflation alone. So at least 50 cents of that is inflation.

    But, you’re making a REALLY compelling point….

  2. Randy in Richmond says:

If you are paying $4.29/gallon you need to buy your gasoline elsewhere. Just by a little shopping around you can save $0.16 to $0.27/gallon or up to half your increase due to inflation.

And applying a straight inflation percentage to the cost of gasoline is folly because in Wisconsin you pay a consistent total tax of about $0.51 per gallon. But I would encourage you Democrats to campaign that the reason filling up a vehicle’s 2o gallon tank has gone from an average in 2006 of $49.60 to $78.00 today, or about $100 per month per vehicle is because– of inflation. Wouldn’t that mean President Obama has done a very poor job in controlling inflation? Sounds like another reason not to re-elect him.

And your attempt to change the discussion from the utter hypocrisy of the Democrats on the tape, irrespective of the reasons gasoline prices have risen, has not succeeded.

  3. J. Strupp says:

Isn’t this S.O.P.? The party out of power uses high gas prices to their advantage all the time. Yeah it’s hypocritical. It’s also politics as usual.

  4. Winegirl says:

Randy, I know where Lorax lives and works. None of those \”cheap\” stations are anywhere near his home/workplace. If you live in those areas, you can get a better price, but if you have to drive 25 miles each way across the city to get there, it doesn\’t really add up.

  5. Randy in Richmond says:

In reality, the more Lorax pays for gas the more it’s price has risen under Obama’s administration–in his case he is paying about $36 more per fillup if his vehicle holds 20 gallons.

And the average citizen doesn’t care why gas has gone up–only that it has.

  6. The Lorax says:

    Classic Republican tactics:

Block public transit; bemoan gas prices.

  7. Classic liberal response, Lorax. So over used that I giggled. You are often more original!

  8. The Lorax says:

    If the glove fits…

  9. Winegirl says:

And what does any of that have to do with the dubious logic of driving 50 miles to save a couple cents on gasoline? It goes up, it goes down. Logical people respond per the elasticity theory of economics.

I pay more for gasoline since the 1973-1974 Arab oil embargo, which jumped gasoline prices by 70% overnight. Before that, I paid 32 cents a gallon. Nixon was in office then. I don’t blame Nixon for starting it all.
