Biden or Ryan–101st Senator?

Here’s a no spin look at the close Senate races across the country. I didn’t use Real Clear Politics because some of the Senate polls still posted are quite old.

AZ…..Flake(R)………40…..Carmona(D)…44……..Is Republican..(Open)
CT…..McMahon(R)..38…..Murphy(D)….44…Is Independent(Dem)(Open)
IN…..Murdock(R)….47…..Donnelly(D)..42……..Is Republican..(Open)
MA…..Brown(R)……47…..Warren(D)….49……..Is Republican..(Brown)
MO…..Akin(R)……….42…..McCaskill(D).48……..Is Democratic..(McCaskill)
MT…..Rehberg(R)….48…..Testor(D)….48……..Is Democratic..(Testor)
NV…..Heller(R)……..50…..Berkley(D)…43……..Is Republican…(Heller)
ND…..Berg(R)……….50…..Heitkamp(D)..40……..Is Democratic…(Open)
VA…..Allen(R)………..48…..Kaine(D)…….49……..Is Democratic…(Open)
WI….Thompson(R)…48…..Baldwin(D)…48……..Is Democratic…(Open)

Obviously anything can still happen. Ask Akin. The current Senate is 53 Dem, 47 Rep. If we subtract the current toss ups it leaves 47 Dem, 43 Rep. Let’s assume Carmona, Murphy, Murdock, McCaskill, Heller, and Berg go on to win. This makes it 50 Dem, 46 Rep with 4 too close to call. 3 of the remaining 4 races are currently held by Democrats and 1 a Republican.

This will be fun to watch. We could very well have a 50–50 Senate which makes the Presidential race even more important, if that’s possible.

  1. Oh Ryan. I was so smart to convince you to show up here now and then.

    Nice job there.

  2. You mean Randy? I had nothing to do with the post above.

If you were wondering, my take is that we will win MT, AZ, NV, ND, and IN. Oh, and Tommy should win WI too. If that happens, we need 1 more seat to get to 50. Most likely is VA, IMO.

MA, FL, CT, and even MO, PA, and OH are still possible, but just don’t see us winning any of them. Hope I’m wrong.

So best hope is to get to 50 and hope Romney-Ryan wins. We definitely have the opportunity to pick up more seats in 2014, so that wouldn’t really be so bad.

  3. Oops.

Oh, Randy. I was so smart to convince you to show up now and then!

That’s what I get for reading from the dashboard. No excuse. I’m sorry Randy. I blamed your awesomeness on Ryan. Completely unacceptable.

    Sort of an update:

Appears you are right about Jeff Flake(R) in Arizona. New poll by Rasmussen has him up 50-44 over the Democrat Richard Carmona.

In Wisconsn, Rasmussen has Thompson up by 2 over Baldwin, 48-46.

Interesting that in Connecticut in another Rasmussen poll, McMahon(R) has cut Murphy’s(D) lead from 6 to 1 point, 48-47. That seems improbable but would be a bonus for the Repubs.

Brown in MA and Akin in MO appear to each need a miracle.

It seems right here in Virginia the Allen / Kaine race could be the decider. Latest poll has Kaine up by one.

  5. Obama is pulling resources from VA and seems to be conceding there. In a very close race, this might depress VA Dems enough to help Allen pull it out. He really deserves to win this one after all he’s had to endure.

I’m going to go out on a limb and predict Akin will win in Missouri.
