Sunday thoughts: What the heck is going on?

The stakes are high. Ideological purity is a must. No compromise. No prisoners. Fight to the death.

You can see it in blogs, news comments, social media. People are tense. Feisty. They won’t back down from a fight. No warning. Out of the blue. Just wade in. Take a swing.

Friends? Ha! It doesn’t matter any more. You disagree with me and you’re done.

You do something I disagree with and I’ll accuse you of, oh, whatever, being a Nazi. That’s popular enough. Or maybe a socialist.

You support the wrong candidate, say the wrong thing, show the wrong picture, boom. The hammer will come down.

“Don’t mess with me.” “Don’t bring a knife to a gunfight.” Don’t say some thing you’ll regret.

Whew! It’s a jungle out there….

Comments

  1. Don’t forget that the racism meme is still being applied. Despicable.

  2. Racism, social and class warfare – no doubt this campaign mentality refuses to shake loose.

  3. Randy in Richmond says:

Maybe some people are the way they are because it originates at the top. For the President of the United States to expound “if they bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun” perhaps sets the tone. It also is demeaning to the office and sets an improper example, especially for young people.

  4. You know, that’s a good point. The principal at a school the kids attended was a heck of a bully. It really filtered down. We ended up pulling the kids.

The more I think about it, the more I get your point.

  5. Great post. If someone doesn’t agree with your point of view, make sure you make a villain out of them. It is not nearly enough anymore to simply disagree. Don’t see an end anytime soon
