Fairly Conservative

To a sufficient degree; in an evenhanded manner.

Another Tuesday in paradise

It looks like the rain will hold off today. That’s great because the youngest has a driving test to attend. Oh, I’m not sure how I ever got this old.

Tonight is a City of Brookfield Common Council meeting. There is very little on the agenda except council appointments and consent business. The city will hand a couple of businesses $9,000 each to circumvent the fees required for our reserve liquor licenses now that Brookfield has run out of regular ones.

As a little aside, it took the city brains about six months to adopt my plan to hand back $9,000 instead of the $10,000 for the license. I kept arguing that people buying the old license had to pay a regular fee of $1,000 or so, why would these new guys get their’s for free? Certain people at city hall had a hard time hearing anything that came out of my aldermanic mouth, so they fumbled around a little while before they got it. Gratefully, they came to reality before the first check was issued.

Also, that perpetual spending machine called 5th district Alderman Scott Berg wants your support in using tax dollars to fund yet another of his bright ideas. He wants the City of Brookfield to put the aldermanic packets online for every meeting. It is a great idea, and one that’s been around for a while, but why does Berg need money to do it? I mean, he’s got it going for free already! By the way, Elmbrook school district started providing packet information a few months ago without any extra cost or demand for fanfare at all. Berg’s had several ideas that have gone straight for your wallet lately. Expect it to get worse as he will be chairing the Finance Committee for the next two years.

The end of the day will have results for the Democratic primaries in North Carolina and Indiana. Expect both sides to create spin out of the numbers. Barack Obama did initially predict wins in both states, but the campaign’s momentum has been reversed over the last couple of weeks. It looks like Hillary Clinton could win Indiana and prolong the race to the Democratic convention. (Tee hee)

I have a book club gathering tonight. This month we read The Genesis Code by John Case. It was certainly a pleasant read, but not really worth the time. I much prefer stories that teach or at least stick with me! This was a bit of a miss in my opinion.

Did anyone go to the Brookfield Park and Rec meeting last night?
