Somehow I am not surprised. V Richards has lost all of it’s initial charm and momentum, not to mention client traffic. For years I have been amazed it’s still open and competing with the stronger local ‘high end’ competition (Graschs, Sendiks, etc…). The margins in the grocery business are razor thin, and I am sure this isn’t the first bonehead move they, or others , have made.

BrkfldDad, I guess I’m surprised that you’ve assumed Nehring’s guilt.
The Mayor of Brookfield has pretty much trashed V. Richards because Nehring wouldn’t cooperate with a smile on the Calhoun widening. So the mayor set to widen Calhoun and close the Bluemound medians at the same time. What do you think that does to business?

Yeah, I’ve had too many personal and business dealing with the grocery industry, that I am jaded and assume the bad side!
I would agree that during the construction period, it kills traffic - no business owner wants that. But after done, I don’t think the widening or medians have any effect on their business. VRichards is more of a destination business, and I wouldn’t believe they get a lot of drive-by business. Customers head there for a reason, and widening/medians aside, will figure out how to get there.

I’ve always used the store as a drive by shop - particularly on days when I need free money from the machine at USBank.

Ah, but you knew VRichards was there. What I meant by drive-by, what the component of retail where someone is driving along Bluemound and goes - ‘oh, there’s a grocery store, let’s stop there.’ I don’t think they get that at all, hence the reason I think the constructions net outcome on them is neutral.
Don’t follow that grocery lead, you’ll go cold quick! I just know a number of the produce owners in town, and grocery distributors nationwide have been clients on and off for 20+ years. I was going to intro myself to you at the St. Dom’s festival, but didn’t see you when I was there! It’ll happen one of these days…

Thanks for explaining drive-by in the retail sense.
And you tease! Honestly this was the first time in years that we didn’t go to the festival. The family usually works in the food booth under the tent, but didn’t. We had Brewer’s tickets for Sunday and had gone to 9:00 Mass that morning instead of the tent Mass per family tradition.
I guess it’s yet another sign pointing towards an emptying nest here.

I’m puzzled by the Aug 29 date in the news report. If that is correct, the offense is almost a year old. Why wait so long?

I hadn’t picked up on that. Check the court record and that is the correct date of the offense. I guess the wheels of Justice do turn slowly!
