A little more about Thomson Corporation and Towne Centre

September 3rd, 2009 · 2 Comments

First, to verify the two are related, check out the Thomson Corporation Web site. Towne Centre is listed as one of their retail developments. The other is in the south of Brookfield on Greenfield Road. Next, separate Sendik’s from this issue. Though the name is on a couple of signs, they don’t own the property. [...]

September 3rd, 2009 · 5 Comments

Get a load of this report from the MJS: The local investment group that owns Sendik’s Towne Centre, a large Brookfield retail and office center, is facing a foreclosure suit, and has filed to reorganize its finances under Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. In all their wisdom, the “reporter” uses the Sendik’s name (as Towne Centre), [...]

On cue: BrookfieldNOW’s TIF article

September 2nd, 2009 · 3 Comments

Can I pick ‘em, or what? Here’s a link to the article. Spin element #1: City officials say the growth came thanks to the city’s only tax-incremental financing district – established in August 2004 and containing lands in the Brookfield Square/Executive Drive area… Those apartments touted in the article were APPROVED BEFORE THE TIF LAW [...]

They’re all over my Web site today searching for details. No doubt the city proffered some spin they’ll convey. We’ll dissect it if it shows up.

What’s City of Brookfield Alderman Scott Berg hiding?

August 4th, 2009 · 6 Comments

5th District Alderman Scott Berg put up a post this week on his newspaper-sponsored Web site about Brookfield’s High Speed Rail station. There were two things I found interesting: He didn’t provide the draft minutes of the meeting in which there was discussion of the topic, and he didn’t mention he was a MEMBER of [...]

Hey Brookfield! How about that owl.

July 22nd, 2009 · 1 Comment

I wonder how much of this had to do with this. All I’ve ever had are specs for the monument sign, and no owl is planned for that one. McDonald’s dropping their arches was more an agreement with community development if I remember correctly. McDonalds would have gold plated bricks to get that one through. [...]

The Siepmann House stands!

July 21st, 2009 · No Comments

The vote was taken without discussion. The only expected opposition was introducing his baby girl to the world tonight (Congratulations!) and unable to attend, so the vote was unanimously in favor. My thanks to the developer who stuck it out and made this happen despite the constant hurdles at city hall. Thanks, too, to Alderwoman [...]

Brookfield, are you ready for a high-speed rail station?

July 20th, 2009 · 4 Comments

Time to pony up. Buried in this agenda last week was a discussion by the Board of Public Works to keep the station in Brookfield’s 2035 plan. Now lets think this thing through – a station means more traffic for those residents in the 4th district who are already fed up with their train noise. [...]
