On behalf of Cindy (no relation to Anne), who joins the converstaion when she can since she’s on vacation, thanks to all those who took the time to post their thoughts, and the (mostly) respectful tone.
As with most things in this election, those inclined toward Obama feel one way; those inclined toward McCain feel another. What will matter on election day is how those who are neutral at the moment feel about these things, as well as other things that have been brought up about all the candidates.

Has anyone checked out Kilkenny’s items in her write up to see how true they are?
So far, it looks like the only concern was if she wrote it.

Danno, I guess I have something to do when I get home! I suspect as with most spin, there are elements that are true, but lack full perspective.
Of course, there are also elements that are opinion, and we’ll just have to let Anne Kilkenny have her opinion. I read in one of the comments where Anne was a crony of a candidate Palin beat out for Governor. I’d like to look into that, too!

If it is true that Wasilla hired an administrator to do the mayor’s job while Sarah was mayor, that is important. If it is true that Sarah tried to have books removed from the Wasilla library, what titles did she object to?
Lumpy and Babe are going nowhere fast.

I’m working on some, Danno, but it’s a tough slog through some government documents.
John Kane, the only thing I’ve found on the banned books is that she posed a question to the librarian about how one would go about it. But there are some other things involved, like the timing of when she asked the librarian to resign. The librarian has not been available for comment which has kept this in limbo.

I have read Anne’s e-mail in several places now, and finally see that Snopes.com has checked it out and lists it as True! They talked to Anne.

This has been checked out on snopes. com and is TRUE. I have received another letter from a resident who knows her and she is big trouble and completely without experience for VP!

Good grief. What person would insist that a 12 year old girl have a baby after being the victim of rape or incest. Someone who thinks we have gone to Iraq because God told us to! (She’s on tape saying this!) She is extreme and uses poor judgment and could be our president–with little experience (Wasilla is a miniature town and Alaska, a sparsely populated state) and a questionable eduational background. She has a perky personality, hardly a qualification to be vice president of the United States. PLEASE, let’s choose the best person who could succeed the presidency. Why do you think the “Party” will not allow her to be interviewed? We will not be able to find anything about her otherwise. Her speech was written for her and she will be prepared by the big boys for every appearance. She has been “appointed…but so far we did not elect her. God help us before it’s too late.

Kathleen,
Do not be jealous because she is as you say “Perky”. I do not understand your conflicting statements:
The complaint “sparsly populated state”
and
at the same time you question her stance on abortion.
How else will Alaska become populated if people are allowed to abort their babies?
How will they man their military?
Your complaints cancel each other out. Other States were allowed flourish with babies before abortion was legal. Sarah Palin sees the wisdom of this as it fits into God’s plan, like the war in Iraq.

Repububabba, I stand corrected. Alaska should promote having babies at age 11 so that by age 18 most of the soldiers can come from that state. If McCain wins, we’ll definitely be in a war somehere and we’ll need all the help we can get. You are correct about the past too. It’s true, the rich could always get abortions and the poor just died from the botched ones. As it is now, the rate of abortions is the same among evangelicals as it is with the rest of the population, but they just want to legislate their faith so it appears we are a God fearing country….whatever that means.

So Palin is pro-life. She will not single handedly change this country’s legal structure about abortion, so the few 12 year olds who get pregnant from rape or incest probably don’t have much to worry about. How many babies that are aborted are from mothers under 17? I don’t know…do you? You sound hysterical.

Kathleen, They said the same thing about Reagan..that he was going to start WW3. How’d that turn out?
I think McCain, more than most of us, know the horrors of war. He’s also seen what happens when you don’t engage in smaller conflicts and allow the wound to reach Gangrene stage before doing anything about it (ala Hitler). If you search through history, War is actually the normal state”, while Peace is abnormal. Where would we (America) be today if war was to be avoided at all costs? Would there be an America? Would there have been an England to subject their governance?
As Veep or even POTUS, Palin would be powerless to preclude abortions. About the most that can done from the Whitehouse is install SCOTUS Justices (who hapened to be subject to legislative confimation). Even IF Roe v Wade was somehow overturned, it would revert back to a States Rights issue. I don’t share Palin’s rather zealous anti-abortion stance (though I do feel abortions are often used as a form of birth control, which is wrong), but I also don’t feel threatened by it. I see her actually living her convictions, which I feel is a good thing in a leader.
Proposing that all 11 year olds get knocked up is just “the liqour talking” and does little to address the issue, or support your own convictions.
