Hillary Clinton recalls Bobby Kennedy assassination

May 23, 2008 at 10:35 pm --by Cindy Kilkenny · 8 Comments

It’s not the end of the world. Everyone (who can remember that time) remembers where they were when they heard about it. I don’t think she needs to apologize for recalling the June 1968 death of Robert Kennedy when he was a presidential candidate.

This is going to be one freaking long six months if every statement is a slam against the opponent. Senator Barack Obama’s people seem awfully quick to respond to every perceived slight. If they keep tilting at all these windmills, they won’t have any energy left for the actual campaign.

(Mea Culpa for the earlier post heading typo. Thanks to a reader for keeping me on my toes. It must not just be me because I actually picked up a hit from a Google search for “Hillary Kennedy Assination.”)

I agree. Hillary was asked a question and she gave a factual answer. She didn’t even mention Obama, just as W didn’t this week in Israel. Obama better get that chip off his shoulder. A president should wear his heart on his sleeve, not have a chip on the shoulder.

I feel a rap video coming on - “git dat chip off yer shoulder”

I am sorry but this is irreponsible, insensitive on Mrs. Clinton’s part to use word “assassination” even if her intent were good. She might have planted a seed in some sick mind.

I don’t agree that Obama has a chip on his shoulder. He seems unflappable. As for Hil, it was a faux pas; no biggie. She may not have owed an apology, but it was gracious of her.

Not surprisingly, I disagree. Obama’s “people” made several quick hard slaps over the statement. It means he flapped.

I think the Daily News hit it on the head with Hillary - ‘We have seen an X-ray of a very dark soul’

This is such a NON issue it’s pathetic. Let’s move on. This is more MSM nonsense. Instead, let’s talk about New Berlin School Board President Matt Thomas and how he’s retreating at his NewBerlinNow.com website, admitting that various comments were false, etc. Interesting reading … check it out for yourself. Apparently the ACLU is threatening a lawsuit against the bad-boy-blogger and his friend Keith Heun …. meanwhile father Ralph Heun also a New Berlin big mouth is quiet about his son’s recant of lies. Read about it … very good stuff. Not even gossip … just fact.

I’m sure you watch these things with more care than I, Cindy, so I’ll take your word for it.

It does make me ponder the dynamics of a campaign. The VP candidate is used for tough talk that the candidate himself isn’t supposed to engage in. The candidate’s “people” may or may not be speaking for the candidate at any given moment; if they say something too egregious, they get the boot regardless.

So if the candidate’s folks are in a flap, do they speak for the candidate? If the flap doesn’t hit the mainstream media, is it really a flap (if a tree falls in the woods….) For something like this, could it be there is no flap, but the folks want to make one?

I check (briefly) 3 to 5 news outlets most days, not always paying a lot of attention when I do. I heard people reporting Hilary’s remarks, but I didn’t hear the campaign people on either side make comments. Mark Shields (on the News Hour) was really worked up over it; looked like he might cry! This is another one for my “I don’t get it” collection.
