Kevin Fischer says alcohol rehab doesn’t work

Aide to State Senator Mary Lazich and CNI blogger, he’s talking in circles tonight on Interchange - WMVS. He swears tightening the penalties for repeat drunk drivers isn’t a “slam dunk” in the legislature.

It’s interesting to hear his perspective. He has three OWI convictions on his own record. Under the latest proposals, that would have made him a felon.

Felons, among other things, don’t have voting privileges in Wisconsin. Kind of a sticky wicket for someone in politics, don’t you think?

“Under the latest proposals, that would have made him a felon.”

Now that sounds like a good plan.

As I’ve said over at my blog, I think drastic changes in our state’s drunk driving laws are long overdue.

So he says alcohol rehab doesn’t work, is that first hand knowledge? Did you notice that at least according to the WI Circuit Court site the 2nd and 3rd offenses both occurred on 1/2/00 - two in one day, what a lapse of judgement!

He must be a party animal.

What’s the story on the seatbelt charge?

They don’t pull you over for not having seatbelt on.

So what was he really pulled over for that he got a break for working for the senator?

I’ve gotten pulled over for just a seatbelt…

So have I. It’s not common, but it does happen.

Should have protested guys, you cannot be pulled over for a seatbelt violation in WI. By law, it’s not a primary offense. You can only get a ticket for not wearing your seatbelt if they have pulled you over for some other primary offense (speeding, unsafe lane change, etc…)

Young men get pulled over for being young men.

  • 10 BrkfldDad // May 12, 2008 at 9:52 am

Yes, but the problem is they drive like young men. At least in my household!

  • 11 Kathryn // May 12, 2008 at 10:12 am

Yes and no. The assumption that young men will get out of line is enough to get them pulled over. If they don’t get ticketed for something, the officer might ask them if they need assistance, if perhaps they are lost?

I’m not a “young man,” so there goes the argument about young men getting pulled over for being young men :-P

The seat belt violation, my guess, could be there to provide the necessary “probable cause” in case this gets a challenge in court.
